As per the data of US Geological survey, the country’s imports in June stood at 54,200 tonnes, after recording a decline of 3.38 per cent month-on-month. In May, the imports were at 56,100 tonnes, up 5.64 per cent from 53,100 tonnes in April.

US aluminium scrap imports in H1 2019

As the graph above shows the United States’ aluminium scrap imports in April were also higher than the previous month because in March the country’s import volume was at 51,400 tonnes, which was even higher from 44,500 tonnes in February. In January, the imports were at 54,000 tonnes, which indicates that the US’ aluminium scrap imports in February were down by 18 per cent month-on-month. Thus, the trend shows that the United States’ aluminium scrap imports recorded monthly drops only in February and June, while in the other four months, the country registered month-on-month rises. But despite that, the total imports in H1 2019 stood lower than the contemporary period last year.

Red Mud Report

The United States’ aluminium scrap imports from Canada also dropped by 8.21 per cent month-on-month in June to 31,300 tonnes, in tandem with the decline in its total scrap imports in the said month.  In May, the imports were at 34,100 tonnes, up 4.28 per cent from 32,700 tonnes in April.
