
United States Geological Survey report for January 2020 showed that the US in the said month exported 28,900 tonnes of aluminium scrap to India. This stood down month-on-month by 6.17 per cent, but when compared to the corresponding period last year, it edged higher by 61 per cent sharp. In December 2019, the United States aluminium scrap exports to India were 30,800 tonnes, while in January 2019 were 18,000 tonnes.

During October-December 2019, the US aluminium scrap exports to India relentlessly showed an upswing trend, by supplying 20,300 tonnes in October, which grew 15.27 per cent to 23,400 tonnes in November. December saw a growth of 32 per cent month-on-month, with US aluminium scrap exports to India came in at 30,800 tonnes.
However, despite the month-on-month decrease in the United States aluminium scrap exports to India, the country’s total exports of scrap rose 4.29 per cent from 140,000 tonnes in December 2019 to 146,000 tonnes in January 2020. In the whole of 2019, the US exported 1.86 million tonnes of aluminium scrap globally.
After India, Malaysia was the next leading destination of the United States scrap exports in January 2020. The former received 26,500 tonnes from the latter in January, down 18.46 per cent from 32,500 tonnes in December 2019.
