
According to the US Geological Survey, the United States’ aluminium scrap exports to Hong Kong jumped by 9,100 tonnes or 81.25 per cent in January 2021 to stand at 20,300 tonnes. In December 2020, the exports stood at 11,200 tonnes, which also surged month-on-month by 4,930 tonnes or 78.63 per cent from 6,270 tonnes in November 2020.

On a year-on-year calculation, the United States’ aluminium scrap exports to Hong Kong soared by 253.66 per cent from 5,740 tonnes. The total aluminium scrap exports from the United States to Hong Kong had amounted to 69,000 tonnes in 2020.
The United States’ total aluminium scrap exports in January 2021 came in at 153,000 tonnes, down by 1.92 per cent from 156,000 tonnes in December 2020 but up by 4.79 per cent from 146,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
Total aluminium exports (including aluminium crude metals and alloys & aluminium plates, sheets and bars) by the United States in January 2021 stood at 224,000 tonnes, flat month-on-month and down by 3.03 per cent year-on-year from 231,000 tonnes.
