Türkiye's aluminium import trends during January-May 2026 present a mixed picture, with lower import volumes but higher import values. Comparing the latest data with the previous two years provides insights into how the country's import mix has evolved and whether its downstream aluminium trade has maintained its share of total imports.

Türkiye's cumulative aluminium imports (January-May)

  • YTD 2026: 799,558.22 tonnes, valued at USD 2.9 billion (down 10.4 per cent in volume from YTD 2025, while import value rose 11.5 per cent)
  • YTD 2025: 892,320.27 tonnes, valued at USD 2.6 billion (up 22.9 per cent in volume from YTD 2024, while import value increased 36.8 per cent)
  • YTD 2024: 726,126.13 tonnes, valued at USD 1.9 billion

Of the total aluminium imported by Türkiye during the January-May period, downstream products accounted for around one-fifth of the country's imports. This share has remained relatively stable over the past three years, standing at 20.34 per cent in YTD 2026, compared with 19.81 per cent in YTD 2025 and 20.07 per cent in YTD 2024.

  • YTD 2026: 162,606.04 tonnes, valued at USD 756 million (down 8.0 per cent in volume from YTD 2025, while import value rose 2.4 per cent)
  • YTD 2025: 176,737.17 tonnes, valued at USD 738 million (up 21.3 per cent in volume from YTD 2024, while import value increased 27.9 per cent)
  • YTD 2024: 145,722.85 tonnes, valued at USD 577 million

Annual figures reinforce the long-term import pattern

The annual data confirms that Türkiye's aluminium import structure has remained stable beyond the year-to-date period.

In 2025, Türkiye imported 2.1 million tonnes of aluminium products valued at USD 6.3 billion, compared with 1.9 million tonnes worth USD 5.3 billion in 2024. This translated into a 10.5 per cent increase in import volume and an 18.9 per cent rise in import value.

Within the total, downstream aluminium imports reached 378,645.23 tonnes, valued at USD 1.6 billion in 2025, compared with 370,281.66 tonnes valued at USD 1.5 billion in 2024. This represents a 2.3 per cent increase in import volume and a 6.7 per cent rise in import value year on year.

YTD (January-May) trend

  • Plates, sheet and strip remained the largest imported downstream product, totalling 85,609 tonnes in YTD 2026. Imports declined 10.7 per cent from 95,862 tonnes in YTD 2025 and were 1.0 per cent lower than 86,507 tonnes in YTD 2024.
  • Wire retained the second position, with imports reaching 46,146 tonnes in YTD 2026. This was 2.8 per cent higher than 44,897 tonnes in YTD 2025 and 68.5 per cent above 27,384 tonnes imported in YTD 2024.
  • Foil ranked third, with imports of 19,516 tonnes in YTD 2026. Volumes fell 17.0 per cent from 23,500 tonnes in YTD 2025 and were 9.3 per cent lower than 21,521 tonnes in YTD 2024.

The annual data mirrors this trend, with the same three products retaining the top positions in both 2024 and 2025.
