From aluminium scrap to specified feedstock

Metycle’s first SmartSorting Hub in Maasmechelen, Belgium, is designed to upgrade mixed and shredded scrap into defined metal fractions at industrial scale. The multi-stage line combines mechanical separation, X-ray and colour sorting, and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), with Metycle’s own data capture and AI-assisted process control.

An aluminium-rich fraction can still contain a mixture of alloys. LIBS analyses the elemental composition of individual pieces, enabling more targeted separation by alloy. The objective is to keep more recovered aluminium in applications that preserve its alloy value.

Buyer requirements connect that processing work to the market. A target specification informs which material Metycle sources, how it is sorted and how the output is assessed. Trading connects the resulting feedstock with industrial demand and manages the commercial execution.

Metycle buys and sells the metal as principal, taking ownership and commercial responsibility for the transaction. The Hub is part of that supply model: a physical link between the material available and the material a customer needs.

The metal moves. The intelligence stays

A specification matters more when the buyer can examine the evidence behind it.

TrustTrack, Metycle’s digital evidence layer, links material identity, weight, composition, processing and logistics records to the batch and the trade across the stages Metycle controls. It gives the material a documented history and buyers a basis for assessing it against their requirements.

That information also has value beyond the individual shipment. Metycle is connecting material analysis and processing results with trade data and buyer feedback. Over time, this builds a clearer picture of each source’s typical alloy mix, how its material responds to processing and which customer requirements it can meet.

The knowledge informs the next purchase, the next processing decision and the next supply agreement. Metycle’s ambition goes beyond a single facility: build an industrial supply model that becomes more precise as it grows.

On Wednesday, 7 October, the conversation moves from the exhibition floor to the big screen.

Metycle invites the aluminium industry to its SmartSorting Hub Opening Night at the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf, just minutes from Hall 6. The facility is in Belgium. For this evening, its story, its material and its people are coming to Düsseldorf.

Cinema. Cocktails. Aluminium. One night only.

Doors open at 18:00. At 18:30, CEO and Co-Founder Rafael Suchan gives a brief welcome before a short cinematic film takes guests inside the Hub. Afterwards, explore material samples and physical exhibits, meet the team and continue the day’s conversations over cocktails and bites.

It is a chance to see what Metycle is building and meet the people connecting it to the global metals market, away from the pace of the exhibition floor.
