Swiss maker launches 400km/h supercar

It's time for Bugatti Veyron owners to start looking over their shoulders, because here comes the Weber F1 created by a bunch of former BMW and Sauber Formula One engineers, to be the world's fastest and lightest street-legal all-wheel drive supercar.

It's powered by a twin-turbo 5.6-litre V10 engine for which these Swiss lunatics claim 882kW at 7000rpm and a tar-wrinkling 1250Nm at 4200rpm, driving via a bought-in six-speed, semi-automatic sequential gearbox with paddle shift, which Weber says will make a full-throttle upshift in 40 milliseconds and their own all-wheel drive system.

With a carbon-fibre monocoque that weighs just 65kg and all-carbon fibre body panels, the whole car weighs only 1250kg dry and Weber claims is will accelerate to 100km/h in 2.5 seconds, 200km/h in about 6.6 and 300km/h in just over 16, topping out at well over 400km/h.

Suspension is by double wishbones all round, each milled in-house from a single piece of aluminium, with coil-over struts adjustable for ride height, compression and rebound damping.

Braking is entrusted to a twelve-piston fixed calliper and vented 380 x 34 mm ceramic brake disc at each wheel - and a rear wing that can flip up to become an air brake in just 50 milliseconds.
