
The economy of Sri Lanka has been envisioned with a significant growth by the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) flagship annual economic publication as the domestic and global economic activity strengthens and vaccination campaigns gather momentum domestically and abroad.

The pearl-shaped island nation in South Asia recorded 375 tonnes of aluminium cans in 2018-19 and the foreign revenue expended for the import accounted for $1.70 million. The import for 2020 stood at 2440 tonnes and the expenditure remained at $2.90 million. However, when the import volume and expenditure of 2020 gets added with the existing two years, it denotes 2815 tonnes and $4.60 million respectively.

Sri Lanka’s import of aluminium cans in 2018 was registered at 123 tonnes only, and the expenditure was $0.71 million, whereas, in 2019, the import revealed a rise by 104.87%, as the import volume grew to 252 tonnes and the expenditure occurred was $0.99 million.
The import for 2020 exhibited a super express growth by 868.25%, as the import volume surged to 2440 tonnes and the expenditure soared to $2.90 million.
The major trading destination for Sri Lanka’s import of aluminium cans is China, India, Pakistan, Singapore, UAE, etc.
