Along with the volume, Spain's aluminium scrap import cost is also forecast to rise to US$ 226 million in CY 2018 from US$ 205 million in 2017 but a little down from US$ 227 million in 2016.

The year-on-year rise in aluminium scrap import to Spain could be primarily attributed to the rising demand across the globe. It is to be noted that aluminium scrap, with each passing year, is continuing to be a significant resource for producing secondary aluminium and subsequently new aluminium products. The highest aluminium recycling percentages can be seen in the construction and transport sector of up to 95% but packaging sector is equally growing due to increased use of foil and cans.
But not all countries export their scraps; a large portion of it is recovered domestically to make new aluminium.
France is expected to be the highest exporter of aluminium scrap to Spain, supplying around 110,185 tonnes at the cost of US$ 92 million. Portugal and Germany are forecast to be the second and third highest scrap exporters to Spain contributing 38240 tonnes and 17902 tonnes at the value of US$ 47 million and US$ 16 million, respectively. This data shows that France is predicted to account for 50 per cent of the total volume of aluminium scrap import by Spain. Other important exporters are Belgium and Cuba.
