EDITED BY : 3MINS READ

During an international business awards to commemorate excellence across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, MQP, a British Firm which has attained more sustainable methods in manufacturing aluminium based products won the Most Innovative Company title.

MQP wins the most innovative award for aluminium grain company

MQP masters in the art of blending aluminium grain refiner, a binding agent added to aluminium in the furnace to guarantee that sheet and billets to car roof panels and kitchen foil, do not open up in cracks.

Television presenter and broadcaster Clare Balding OBE presented the Solihull based company with the award at the 2022 BizX Awards ceremony held at Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre.

The firm was singled out among the seventeen participants where it won completing with four other finalists.  The firm won because of its outstanding products; “innovation and transformation throughout the company and having a vision to disrupt wherever you can”.

MQP was congratulated mostly for the development of its new Optifine 5:1 125, which is 40 per cent more efficient than the nearest competitor in the market which means foundries would need to use this product 85 percent less than the one in use to gain high quality output.

The producers of automotive body sheets (ABS) for the electric vehicles (EV) market, which is valued at US$163.01 billion in 2020 and estimated to reach US$823.75 billion by 2030, were extremely excited to know the possibility of omitting ‘razor streaks’ from critical, high surface quality components in the earliest stage of car assembly, not the end, which would sail them towards innovation.

Chairmen John Courtenay felt elevated to be recognized for contributing to the upgradation of an industry in a world where everyone is seeking less carbon footprint products.

The industrial sector making hoods and doors to full car chassis for electric vehicles will require more aluminium in the upcoming days as Global demand for aluminium will rise 80 percent by 2050. It is about 30 percent lighter than steel which is now being abundantly used, also with less carbon emission which helps to protect the eco-system.

Anyhow the production of aluminium is not a simple process as mined bauxite ore must go through the Bayer process in order to extract alumina which is again treated to remove unwanted oxides to enable it to solidify. During the last process contraction might create cracks on the surface of the product but this difficulty is waved off with Grain Refiner, a star ingredient that binds the metal and lessens porosity.

“We developed Optifine on the back of the realisation that grain refiners on the market were notoriously inconsistent in performance, resulting in defects, poor quality material and waste. Building on the success of our original Optifine, we worked with Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST) at Brunel University London to develop a grain refiner that would change the industry.” _ John Courtenay

To add to their grandeur, Optifine and Optifine 5:1 125 are today being used in 42 major cast houses worldwide in deliberation to produce over three million tonnes of alloys a year. MQP feels very proud to be recognised for their investment in the evolution of melting metals.

Outlook for the Indian Aluminium Industry

ActionCOACH, a business coaching association with franchise around 70+ countries, across UK, Europe and the Middle East, organised the annual BizX Awards.

Anu Khanna, the business coach at MQP, said: “MQP has worked exceptionally hard to grow the business and hit its targets. And they are committed to continuing to invest in R&D to help cast houses produce the best aluminium to make the highest quality end products, make manufacturing cost efficiencies and cut emissions.”

“A huge congratulations to them for winning this award.”
