This innovative feature optimises both the vessel's route and speed simultaneously, a first in the maritime industry, integrating these capabilities into the ABB Ability™ Routeguard onshore routing service. The introduction marks the first major upgrade since ABB acquired the shipping business of DTN Europe BV and DTN Philippines Inc. earlier this year.
The Optimal Speed Routing feature is a game-changer, providing real-time advice to operators on adjustments to their vessel's track and speed. It leverages the latest meteorological data and factors in variables such as vessel daily hire costs, fuel expenses, and user-defined vessel performance models. This dynamic approach allows operators to strategically slow down to avoid rough weather or speed up to outrun it, optimising fuel consumption and reducing overall costs and emissions.
