PURe® aluminium windows and doors from Senior Architectural Systems have been selected for use in Birmingham's new Perry Barr residential development project. This is a significant project for the city, and Senior's low U-value systems have been chosen for three of the four plots in the first phase of the development.

These plots are located on the former Birmingham City University Teaching Campus site. Senior has worked with two different project teams on the contract, partnering with Vinci and Duplus Architectural Systems on plot 7 and with Wilmott Dixon and Acorn Aluminium on plots 8 and 9.
Each building has one and two-bedroom apartments, as well as ground-floor retail or leisure space, with all units boasting private or communal outdoor areas. Plot 7 is the largest in the first phase, comprising six new buildings ranging from five to 15 storeys and constructed with a traditional concrete frame.
Senior's low U-value PURe® aluminium windows and doors have been installed throughout the development to ensure safe and secure access and maximum energy efficiency. This is a testament to the quality and reliability of Senior's products and demonstrates their suitability for use in large-scale, high-profile construction projects.

The Perry Barr housing development, constructed by Willmott Dixon, features Senior's thermally-enhanced PURe®, aluminium tilt, turn windows, and PURe® SLIDE patio doors. These windows and doors were installed in the 430 individual apartments across the four and six-storey buildings known as plots 8 and 9. The development utilised modern methods of construction (MMC) and off-site manufacturing elements such as light gauge steel frames, brick slip façades, pre-manufactured balconies and balustrades, and bathroom pods.
Senior's patented PURe® aluminium system is unique and features a highly efficient expanded polyurethane (PUR) thermal barrier. This system was recently recognised with a King's Award for Enterprise for the successful development of the system and its commitment to innovation. When calculated as a commercial CEN Standard window, the system can achieve U-values as low as 0.71W/m2K, which comfortably meets the latest targets set out by Part L of the Building Regulations.
The PURe® system not only helps to prevent heat loss to reduce energy consumption but also offers 'cradle to cradle' recyclability. Even the PUR thermal barrier can be reused with no requirement for landfill. Over the last decade, Senior has continued to develop and extend its PURe® range to include a variety of window styles and both commercial and residential door options.
