
According to a report, over 37 tonnes of recyclable materials have been collected by more than 58 schools in Perlis in the first Perils Recycling Campaign 2018.

The schools in Perils had taken up this challenge of collecting recyclable materials for advocating best recycling practices during the campaign co-organised by Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd (F&N), Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) in Perlis, with the state Education Department and the support of state National Unity and Integration Department.
The campaign was held during the first half of the year from Jan 1 to July 31, aiming at educating and creating awareness on the importance of applying the 5R philosophy - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink and Reinvent in conserving the environment and reducing landfill waste.
Sixteen pre-schools, 28 primary schools, and 14 secondary schools state-wide had participated in the campaign, with students competing for RM 22860 in prize money by accumulating the largest haul of recyclable materials, such as paper, plastic, aluminium, beverage cartons and e-waste.
Special awards were given to schools that collected the highest amount of aluminium and plastic materials. SM Syed Alwi received RM700 for collecting 28kg of aluminium scrap.
SL Agama Islahiyah Rendah by collecting 25kg of aluminium scrap stood the winner in the primary school category and won RM 700. Tadika Cempaka accumulated 24 kg of aluminium to lead the pre-school category and won RM300.
