RUSAL plans an RUB 5 billion plus investment for an alumina terminal in Vanino Bay

EDITED BY : DIPANWITA GUPTA 2MINS READ

One of the world's largest aluminium producers UC RUSAL is going to invest over RUB 5 billion in construction of an alumina transshipment terminal in Vanino Bay within the framework of Free Port of Vladivostok (FPV), Russia, reported sources aware of the development. Three more projects are also being lined up for implementation in the Vanino District. The approval of all the projects was obtained from the Committee of FPV Supervisory Board on January 17, Tuesday.

Prichal LLC, a subsidiary of Rysal, has been awarded the contract of building the alumina terminal that will facilitate transshipment of 1.5 million tonnes of alumina in a year, on completion. The total investment for the project is expected to exceed RUB 5 billion.

Prichal is currently pursuing the procedure of obtaining the status of free port residents for the project.

News
RUSAL, in December 2016, signed a shareholders’ agreement ELKA-Cable, a cable product company, to create Bogoslovsk Cable Plant, a jointly owned facility producing cables and wires.

The aluminium producer is investing across the value chain, firstly, in order to further strengthen the raw material supply side in the upstream verticals, and secondly, to earn higher revenues by linking itself more closely with the end user sectors.

The Russian Federal authorities are working on introduction of necessary amendments into the Federal Law on Free Port of Vladivostok under the umbrella of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East. Upon obtaining the status, Khabarovsk Territory (the location of the proposed projects) will be able to attract at least 37 projects with total investments of about RUB 111 billion and generate over 7,300 jobs, says preliminary estimates.
