As demand grows for high-performance building envelopes and lighter construction materials, RPM International is positioning itself for the next phase of expansion. The US-based group has reached an agreement to acquire Kalzip, the German specialist in aluminium roofing and façade systems, a move that signals a deeper push into specification-driven construction markets and an expanded international footprint.

The US-based coatings and construction materials group, headquartered in Medina, Ohio, said the transaction will see Kalzip integrated into its Tremco Construction Products Group (Tremco CPG). The acquisition is expected to enhance Tremco’s technical capabilities in aluminium-based systems while reinforcing its presence in Europe and India, with North America emerging as a new growth frontier for the business.
Kalzip, which operates from Koblenz, Germany, is recognised for its lightweight, durable aluminium solutions tailored for complex architectural applications. Its systems have been specified on landmark projects including Barcelona’s El Prat Airport, Berlin’s Mercedes-Benz Arena and the Ikea development in Dubai. With net sales of EUR 75 million ( USD 82 million) in 2024, the company portrays a strong foothold in the premise of the global construction supply chain.

The addition of Kalzip with Tremco CPG is quite a strategic move to offer fully integrated building envelope solutions that include roofing refurbishment, sealants, waterproofing, and exterior insulation. Leveraging Kalzip's aluminium expertise, RPM is planning a systems portfolio expansion beyond its current geographical footprint, enabling the latter to accommodate the growing demand for high-performance roofing and facades.
The deal is slated for the final sign by the end of RPM’s 2026 fiscal year. However, Kalzip’s senior management team will be running the business operations even after completion.
RPM chairman and chief executive Frank C. Sullivan described the acquisition as a strategic fit for specification-led construction markets, noting Kalzip’s strengths in system design and performance. The transaction underscores a wider industry shift towards lightweight materials and integrated envelope solutions, as developers increasingly prioritise durability, efficiency and long-term building performance.
