Romanian company Alro has won a contract to supply aluminium to Airbus for manufacturing its aircrafts. Alro, a subsidiary of Vimetco group announced the news on Friday. The agreement will continue for a number of years and will be starting in 2017.
Commenting on this partnership Alro CEO said, “We are looking forward to starting this partnership with Airbus Gheorghe Dobra, and supplying best quality aluminium plates for the aerospace industry.”
{alcircleadd}“This opportunity is yet another confirmation that the significant investments we made in upgrading our production facilities and extending our portfolio were successful,” he added.
Alro will be providing aluminium flat rolled products to Airbus to be used in its aircrafts. It is to be noted that Alro, the largest aluminium producer in Europe excluding Russia and Scandinavia holds the NADCAP (National Aerospace and Defence Contractor Accreditation Programme) performance certification that conforms to the requirements of the aerospace industry.
Aluminium alloys produced at its Slatina plant underwent strict testing process for heat treatment, conductivity measurement, tensile testing, hardness, and metallography before qualifying for this certification by the NADCAP Management Council.
Alro reported a business turnover of EUR 247 million in H1 2016, slightly lower than the same period the previous year. Its net profit dropped from RON 68 million in H1 2015 to RON 39 million (EUR 8.7 million) in H1 2016.
According to the company’s statement the lower level of aluminium prices on the London Metal Exchange was partially responsible for the drop.
This was partly offset by the increasing sales volume. Alro sold 79,533 tons of primary aluminium in H1 2016, up by almost 10,900 tons compared to H1 2015. The fabriicated aluminium sales reached almost 42,000 tons in H1 2016, compared to 39,629 tons in the same period of 2015.
Alro continued with its investment program in H1 2016, focusing on increasing energy efficiency, competitiveness, and high product quality. Alro has an installed production capacity of 265,000 tons per year. Other than selling in European Union (Germany, Hungary, Poland, Greece and Romania), Alro also exports its aluminium to the U.S. and Asia.
Alro Group also includes the Alum Tulcea alumina factory, which supplies Alro with alumina, and the aluminium processing plant Vimetco Extrusion.
