BMW luxury brand unit Rolls-Royce plans to develop and test a new super luxury SUV made of new aluminium space frame and body underpinning all future new cars going on sale from 2018 and on.
In the last few decades, the use of aluminium in automotive technology has increased. Aluminium provides both strength and lightweight properties which can enhance fuel efficiency. An aluminium body frame can absorb a higher energy crash impact better despite the lightweight structure.
In February 2015, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced that the model would use aluminium space-frame architecture.
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said, "Bringing together the new four-wheel drive system and the new 'architecture of luxury' for the first time sets us on the road to creating a truly authentic Rolls-Royce which, like its forebears, will reset the standard by which all other luxury goods are judged."

For the first time, Rolls-Royce's would come up with a crossover which will have aluminium body panels and a new aluminium space frame that won't be shared with BMW. This platform will then be modified and used for other future Rolls-Royce models.
