Recycled aluminium weekly: Runaya records improved credit ratings by Ind-Ra; Hydro invests NOK 500 million to increase post-consumer recycling in Pennsylvania

The recycled sector is of activities as residual items from the upstream sectors flow through this genre to be sorted and revitalised again. Runaya Refining, which was founded in 2017 by Annanya Agarwal and Naivedya Agarwal, entered the aluminium dross market and now has attained credit ratings of 'IND BBB+ in exchange for former 'IND BBB' by India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra), whereas, its short-term limits have been upgraded to IND A2. Hydro, to attain sustainability, emphasises recycling pre and post-consumer aluminium scrap, for which it has invested NOK 500 million at its extrusion factory in Cressona, Pennsylvania.

Cayman Islands Department of Environmental Health (DEH) wavered away two forty-foot containers packed with 35,407 lbs of aluminium cans, Type 1 & 2 plastic containers, utilised tyres, lead acid batteries and 2,475 gallons of oil. The shipment was transferred from Sister Islands to Grand Cayman, where the differentiated and sorted, recycled materials would be stocked at the George Town Landfill and prepared for foreign export.

Connecticut Metal, North America’s leading recycler of aluminium foil and laminate scraps, reportedly recycled more than 50,000 tonnes of aluminium-containing materials at its Ansonia facility. Foil, paper, and polymer laminates used in the food, drug, and cosmetics sectors were recovered at this facility, which opened in 2010.

As of June 2022, 124,600 tonnes of aluminium scrap were imported, up by 23.67 per cent M-o-M and 220.3 per cent Y-o-Y, as said by the most recent statistical data. Since late June, the customs examination of imported aluminium scrap was loosened. In the first half of 2022, imports totalled 630,400 tonnes, up 55 per cent from the same period last year. Among them, imports for processing trade were 8,500 tonnes, 4,300 tonnes less than in May, mainly due to fewer products coming from the United States.

Runaya Refining LLP bagged greater credit ratings of ‘IND BBB+ from India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) as against the former ratings of ‘IND BBB’, while its short-term limits have been upgraded to IND A2. The advancement in credit ratings represents Runaya's improvement in net leverage for FY2022 and 1QFY2023 on the back of higher dross processing volumes and operating profitability.

Hydro's plan for a sustainable future is effectively recycling pre- and post-consumer aluminium scrap. With this, Hydro's latest investment of NOK 500 million in recycling at its Cressona, Pennsylvania, extrusion factory will make them one step closer to their goal. The investment will increase the facility's recycling capabilities, including re-melting and creating low-carbon aluminium products through extrusion billet casting.
