German footwear brand nat-2 has teamed up with Remeant, an Israeli start-up specialising in novel fabrics, to bring a vegan sneaker made from used and recycled aluminium foil into the market. nat-2 has named this initiative the 'Reduceusecycle' collection, which tries to identify new, never-before-used materials to reuse and upcycle.
The vegan, unisex nat-2 'Sleek Alchemist' sneaker is the result, with an upper constructed of repurposed aluminium foil and shiny glass. The company is known for its commitment towards exploring unique and natural materials like stone, coffee grinds, cork, mushrooms, fish leather, flowers, leaves and others.
The inside comprises nat-2 bio-ceramic, the replaceable insole is made of genuine cork, and the outsole is made entirely of rubber. The heel and tongue are made of smooth, shiny glass. Sebastian Thies, the brand's founder and sixth-generation shoe designer, created the nat-2 Sleek Alchemist sneaker. The shoes are made in Italy by a small family business under decent circumstances.
The new Reduceusecycle line is about discovering new, never-before-used materials for re- and upcycling; it is also about advancing new techniques and perspectives on circular product design, addressing current challenges, and inspiring us to rethink how we consume.
