HexaTech raises the bar for aluminum nitride substrates with 100 mm production launch
HexaTech, Inc. has announced the immediate production release of its new 100 mm diameter single-crystal aluminum nitride (AlN) substrate, marking a significant step in the company's efforts to scale up manufacturing of the advanced semiconductor material. The launch builds on its earlier three-inch diameter substrate introduction and strengthens its product portfolio for commercial optoelectronic and high-power radio frequency (RF) applications. Phinergy explores aluminium-air generators for data centre power beyond backup use
Phinergy and electrical contractor Rosendin Electric have published a second white paper examining how aluminium-air generators (AAGs) could support data centre power needs beyond conventional backup systems. The paper outlines three potential uses, including providing power for AI and cloud facilities, increasing available grid capacity and supporting renewable microgrids. Titled “From Backup Power to Grid Enabler: Use Cases for Aluminum-Air Generator (AAG) in AI-Era Data Centers,” the paper compares aluminium-air generators with diesel generators and lithium-ion battery systems. The report comes amid growing pressure on electricity infrastructure from data centre expansion. Aluminium catalyst helps Chinese researchers improve sodium-sulphur battery performance
Researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have developed an aluminium-based catalyst that could help make sodium–sulphur batteries last longer. The catalyst addresses a problem that has limited the technology: Sodium polysulphides can dissolve and move away from the cathode, reducing battery life. The research team, led by Professors Wang Hui and Zheng Fangcai at CAS's High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Hefei, changed the atomic structure of aluminium by replacing one oxygen atom with nitrogen. The team wrote in the press release, “This created an asymmetric structure with three oxygen atoms and one nitrogen atom around each Al atom.” It is an Al–O3N structure (three oxygen atoms and one nitrogen atom surrounding each aluminium atom). Ball reports 4.7% growth in aluminium packaging shipments, announces new can plants in Germany and India
Ball Corporation reported a 4.7 per cent increase in global aluminium packaging shipments in Q3 2026, supported by higher volumes across its beverage packaging operations in North and Central America, EMEA, and South America. The company also announced plans to expand its manufacturing network with new beverage can facilities in Germany and India. Ball’s comparable operating earnings for the quarter reached USD 451 million, up 2.5 per cent from USD 440 million in the same period last year. Comparable diluted earnings per share increased 6.8 per cent to USD 1.10, compared with USD 1.03 in Q3 2025. Cano Water launches 473ml lightweight aluminium water bottle at Waitrose in the UK
Cano Water is expanding its aluminium packaging range in the UK with the launch of a new 473ml still water bottle in selected Waitrose stores from November. The lightweight aluminium bottle, a popular format in the US, is being introduced to the British market for the first time after more than five years of development and efforts to secure UK listings. The launch marks a new chapter for Cano Water, which has sold nearly 100 million cans over the past 11 years. China’s aluminium container exports rise 36.1% in H1 2026 as Vietnam remains top destination
China’s exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar container products (HS 7612) increased in the first half of 2026, with shipments rising in both quarters. Among the destinations listed, import trends varied, with some markets recording strong growth while others saw declines. Exports at a glance China exported 49,000 tonnes of aluminium products (HS 7612) in the first half of 2026, up 36.1 per cent from 36,000 tonnes in H1 2025 and 63.3 per cent from 30,000 tonnes in H1 2024.
