On Thursday, July 27, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced that Real Alloy, the global market leader in third-party aluminium recycling and specification alloy production, was accredited with the ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) certification for the recycling of aluminium scrap and the manufacture of wrought and foundry alloys at 11 manufacturing facilities in Canada, the United States of America, and Mexico, as well as central strategic and administrative functions at their headquarters in Beachwood, Ohio, USA. The operations provide specified foundry and wrought alloys in liquid and solid ingot forms to various industrial sectors, including automotive and transportation, packaging, manufacturing, and construction.
In 2022, Real Alloy had achieved dual ASI certifications for its operations in North America. DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd performed an impartial, third-party audit of Real Alloy Holding, LLC. The audit occurred before May 31, 2023, allowing for Performance Standard V2 certification.
The ASI Certification programme, established after intensive multi-stakeholder input, is the first complete voluntary sustainability standard project for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) sets environmental, social, and governance principles and standards to address sustainability challenges across the aluminium value chain. It establishes 59 criteria within the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment, and Social, addressing critical concerns such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples' rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.
“We warmly congratulate REAL ALLOY for achieving ASI Performance Standard V2 certification at these 11 recycling facilities. The company’s recycling of a wide range of aluminium scrap makes an important contribution to the circular economy of a range of downstream sectors. ASI certification demonstrates REAL ALLOY’s commitment to responsible production practices, helping it to align with increasing expectations of investors, customers, and other stakeholders on risk mitigation, supply chain transparency and responsible sourcing,” said Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI.
