Qingzhen City recently upgraded its aluminium industry towards a sustainable and greener future. The city carried out three crucial initiatives, which helped the industry move towards a sustainable environment. The first step entails enhancing "energy efficiency and emission reduction" initiatives. This involves:
{alcircleadd}Additionally, constructing new production lines to extract rare metals from aluminium ore will further expand the pool of available resources. Moreover, implementing energy plants as "complementary" biofuels for enterprises will significantly reduce electricity usage. One new production line has been successfully added, marking the completion of energy plant installations in three pilot areas.
The second aspect involves the revitalisation of "waste to wealth" strategies. This includes implementing production information and enabling the conversion of raw ore into alumina through automated processes. The solid waste generated undergoes harmless treatment and is repurposed for mine backfilling and pavement construction. Furthermore, waste aluminium products are recycled and transformed into aluminium alloy products, thereby stimulating the advancement of downstream aluminium processing and casting enterprises. A total of 1345.6 tonnes of solid waste has been repurposed, allowing for the annual production of 150,000 tonnes of recycled aluminium products.
The third focus area is "mine rehabilitation", aimed at pollution reduction. Establishing the Juli Green Mine has paved the way for a phased approach of "closure, cessation, consolidation, and transformation" of mining activities. This transition supports the gradual realisation of large-scale, standardised mining operations. Efforts are also directed towards enhancing mine management and ecologically restoring mined-out areas through land levelling, slope treatment, soil mulching, and rehabilitation. Presently, 8,855 mu of land has been restored, with 7 green mines promoted, and a national green mine was successfully established.
