Amidst the geopolitical and the Energy crisis in Europe, Russia has cancelled the start of its gas supply at the Nord Stream 1 after apparently citing an oil leak in the turbine. This will thrust the entire energy-based economy into a completely dark zone, and disputes have already started taking place between big companies like Gazprom and Siemens Energy, with Europe under the fear of an industrial breakdown. LME benchmark aluminium price began the week of September 5 with an US$18.50 per tonne slump resting at US$2,290.50 per tonne and had downward luck all week with prices gradually declining. On September 9, there was, however, a sudden US$24 per tonne boost, with the official aluminium price docking at US$2,280 per tonne, experiencing a 0.46 per cent drop overall this week. SHFE other than the mid-week plunge had a stable growth this week, with primary aluminium price settling at US$2,709 per tonne on September 9, gaining 2.23 per cent over Monday’s US$2,650 per tonne. Lower demand for aluminium has compelled an established organisation like Norsk Hydro to temporarily curtail production at its Karmøy unit in Norway. Other European companies to measure their production rates are Aluminium Dunkerque in France and Speira GmbH, Germany, with the latter expecting to decrease 50 per cent of its aluminium production at Rheinwerk smelter in Neuss. On the brighter side, EPIQ Machinery and DTA have collaborated to introduce a variety of AGVs possibilities to the international aluminium market.

After its short maintenance, the Nord Stream 1 pipeline was expected to resume its flow this week as European Governments battle to control soaring gas prices. In spite of this, Russia abruptly cancelled the restart, citing an oil leak in a turbine. It highlighted a dispute between Gazprom and Siemens Energy over repairs to the pipeline.
