
This week the world’s primary aluminium segment reflected sporadic yet crucial changes. LME aluminium benchmark price on Monday, April 11, had opened the week with a fall of 4.72 percent to register at US$3,234.50 per tonne. However, on Thursday, April 14, the price had inched up by 0.95 percent to score at 3,237.50 per tonne. Apart from this, SMM price had opened the week on Monday, April 11 with a plunge of RMB 570 per tonne, which however had gone up from RMB 20,850 on April 12, Tuesday, to RMB 21,730 per tonne on Friday, April 15. Alcoa Corporation had said on Thursday, April 14 that it had entered into a supply deal with Speira to offer low-carbon EcoLumTM aluminium. Also, Fortescue Future Industries, a worldwide green energy supplier, claimed that would no longer be a shortage of electricity because green hydrogen power output in Southland will expand, eliminating the need to hike home costs.

LME aluminium had opened at US$3,257 per tonne on Thursday and had closed at US$3,299 per tonne, down US$42 per tonne or 1.29 per cent. LME aluminium cash bid price stood at US$3,237 per tonne and LME aluminium official settlement price halted at US$3,237.50, gaining 1 per cent and 0.95 per cent respectively, if compared with the records of Wednesday.

As per SMM report, the A00 aluminium ingot price in China had again witnessed a rise on Friday, April 15. The price had increased by RMB 270 per tonne to come in at RMB 21,730 per tonne. The average price for the same was expected to range between RMB 21,710 per tonne and RMB 21,750 per tonne, with spot contract traded at a premium price of RMB 70-30 per tonne.

The global green energy provider, Fortescue Future Industries claimed there won’t be a scarcity of electricity anymore since green hydrogen power generation in Southland will increase and ultimately the need to raise household bills won’t appear. On Tuesday the Supreme Court session commenced on a very serious allegation put down by Vedanta Ltd on National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) the former pressing charges for non-compliance of the order dated January 14, 2020, due to which a three-judge bench allowed the plaintiff to bid for NALCO’s alumina tenders meant for export.
On Thursday, April 14, Alcoa Corporation announced that it entered into a supply agreement with Speira to provide low-carbon EcoLum™ aluminum. Speira is a global aluminium rolling and recycling company, consisting of seven manufacturing facilities and one R&D centre. It serves the automotive, packaging, printing, engineering, and building and construction industries.

On Thursday, April 14, China’s social inventories of primary aluminium dipped after two weekly hikes. The Shanghai Metals Market data showed the inventories dropped by 3,000 tonnes week-on-week across eight major consumption areas, including SHFE warrants, to total 1.063 million tonnes. Last Thursday, April 7, the primary aluminium inventories stood at 1.066 million tonnes accumulating 25,000 tonnes over a week.
According to the Shanghai Metals Market, China’s aluminium production in March 2022 (31 days) stood at 3.315 million tonnes, 0.92 per cent less year-on-year. The daily average output was 106,900 tonnes, which also reflected a drop of 1000 tonnes on the year but 1,700 tonnes more than in the previous month. From January to March, China produced 9.465 million tonnes of aluminium in total, a decrease of 2.28 per cent year-on-year.
Vedanta Limited again chopped its aluminium ingot and aluminium products prices, with effect from Tuesday, April 12, following an increase on April 9. As per the revised prices revealed, Vedanta is selling its aluminium ingot at INR 281,000-328,500 per tonne, down by INR 13,000 per tonne or 4 per cent from INR 294,000- 341,500 per tonne on April 9.
National Aluminium Company Limited has further slashed its aluminium ingot and aluminium products prices since its last cut on April 1, 2022. With effect from Tuesday, April 12, NALCO has chopped its aluminium ingot price by INR 15,700 per tonne or 5.30 per cent to INR 280,550- 284,050 per tonne as against INR 296,250- 299,750 on April 1.
Hindalco Industries Limited hiked its aluminium ingot and aluminium products prices on Saturday, April 9, following a sharp cut on the previous day. The major Indian aluminium player increased its aluminium ingot price by INR 4,000 per tonne to INR 293,750 per tonne, with effect from April 9. On the previous day, the price was slashed by INR 7,250 per tonne to INR 289,750 per tonne.

Aluminium ingot production in Iran surged by 20 percent throughout the Iranian calendar year 1400, which ended on March 20, says the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO). IMIDRO is a large state-owned holding corporation operating in Iran's mining sector.
