
In October 2020, primary aluminium production in East & Central Europe stood at 351,000 tonnes, up by 13,000 tonnes or 3.85 per cent from 338,000 tonnes in September 2020, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). The output grew in October after a plunge in the previous month by 11,000 tonnes or 3.15 per cent from 349,000 tonnes in August.

In July 2020, East & Central Europe’s primary aluminium output also stood at 349,000 tonnes, meaning the production in August remained flat month-on-month.
On a year-on-year calculation, primary aluminium production in East & Central Europe in October 2020 stood lower by 5,000 tonnes or 1.4 per cent from 356,000 tonnes.
In the entire ten months of the year, primary aluminium production in East & Central Europe totalled 3.461 million tonnes, flat compared with 3.460 million tonnes during the same period last year.
In West Europe, primary aluminium production in October 2020 grew as well to rebound to 280,000 tonnes, after a drop in September from 280,000 tonnes in August to 270,000 tonnes. The output in August was slightly down from the previous month’s production of 281,000 tonnes.
On a year-on-year basis, primary aluminium production in October 2020 was down by 6,000 tonnes or 2.10 per cent from 286,000 tonnes.
During January-October this year, the total primary aluminium production in West Europe amounted to 2.780 million tonnes, down by 3.24 per cent from 2.873 million tonnes during the same period last year.
