
Africa’s primary aluminium production in October 2020 grew month-on-month by 5,000 tonnes or 3.82 per cent, following a dip in the previous month. According to the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) data, Africa’s primary aluminium output in October came in at 136,000 tonnes compared with 131,000 tonnes in September.

In August 2020, Africa produced 135,000 tonnes of primary aluminium; hence, the output in September was down by 4,000 tonnes or 2.96 per cent. In August, however, Africa’s production improved month-on-month from 133,000 tonnes in July.
But despite the month-on-month hike, Africa’s primary aluminium production in October 2020 stood down on a yearly basis. During the same period last year, Africa’s primary aluminium output had amounted to 138,000 tonnes, which means the production in October 2020 plunged by 1.45 per cent Y-o-Y.
In the first ten months of 2020, primary aluminium production in Africa totalled 1.34 million tonnes, down by 2.19 per cent from 1.37 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
Primary aluminium production across the world in October 2020 stood at 5.59 million tonnes, up by 3.52 per cent from 5.4 million tonnes in September and 4.49 per cent from 5.35 million tonnes in October 2019, found IAI data.
