
Primary aluminium production in Africa stood at 137,000 tonnes in August 2021, which reflected an increase of 2,000 tonnes or 1.48 per cent for the second month in a row from 135,000 tonnes in July, according to the International Aluminium Institute. In June 2021, Africa produced 130,000 tonnes of primary aluminium, meaning the output in July registered a hike of 5,000 tonnes or 3.85 per cent month-on-month.

On a year-on-year calculation, Africa’s primary aluminium production also stood 2,000 tonnes higher at 137,000 tonnes, found IAI.
In the first eight months of 2021, Africa’s primary aluminium production totalled 1.053 million tonnes, down by 1.96 per cent from 1.074 million tonnes during the same period last year.
World’s primary aluminium production in August 2021 came in at 5.699 million tonnes compared to 5.733 million tonnes in July and 5.25 million tonnes in August 2020. That was a month-on-month decrease of 0.60 per cent but a hike of 3.15 per cent year-on-year.
Daily average aluminium production in August 2021 stood at 183,800 tonnes, down by 0.59 per cent from 184,900 tonnes in tandem with the decrease in monthly output. On a yearly basis, daily production in August stood 3.14 per cent higher than 178,200 tonnes.
During January-August, world’s total primary aluminium production amounted to 45.140 million tonnes, up by 4.75 per cent from 43.092 million tonnes during the same period last year.
