ORIX Real Estate Corporation, along with ORIX Corporation and ORIX Eco Services Corporation, has revealed its plans to start horizontal recycling of the used window glass and aluminium window frames from the demolition of the Naka Kan guest room building at Beppu SUGINOI HOTEL.

Within this initiative, the firm will be making use of the horizontal recycling of entire aluminium windows. This initiative has been set up by ORIX and ORIX Eco Services for fostering a circular economy by bringing together the real estate and environmental arms of the ORIX Group, marking the first in Kyushu.

In January 2025, Naka Kan was completed, which is a major renovation of SUGINOI HOTEL and is currently in the demolition phase. While being in this process, a large quantity of aluminium windows was taken from the guest rooms and then sorted into window glass and aluminium frames. 

For this process, the quality checks are crucial and are carried out by a cullet recycling company as well as a metal processing firm. Here, they ensure these materials can be recycled back into new aluminium frames and glass by their original manufacturers.

Within the horizontal recycling process, which involves reusing old products as raw materials to create the same type of product, this process is gaining popularity across various industries. This method not only cuts down on waste but also promotes resource efficiency and reduces environmental impact.

Within the construction industry, reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 indicates a lowering of CO2 emissions throughout the building lifecycle, which starts from the production and construction of these materials till demolition.
