Oetinger Aluminium GmbH, a leading producer and supplier of casting alloy ingots, has obtained ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V2 (2022) Certification for the Weißenhorn and Neu-Ulm production sites in Germany. Oetinger, thus, represents the first entity in Europe to have received the updated CoC Standard V2, launched in May 2022.
The two sites produce nearly 180,000 tonnes per year of aluminium casting alloys in solid (ingots) and liquid form (tankers). A year ago, Oetinger Aluminium had bagged ASI Performance Standard Certification with Provisional Status for the production of casting alloys from scrap and recycled materials.
The independent third-party audit for the current certification was carried out by GUTcert (AFNOR Group).
On receiving another ASI certification, Lubomir Pajonk, CEO at Oetinger Aluminium GmbH, said: “Achieving ASI CoC certification is one of the important milestones for our team in our plan to reach carbon neutral production. But it also underscores our commitment to continue on the sustainability production path. It is a solid foundation for our company’s further development in selected markets while maintaining a competitive advantage, especially against unethical suppliers. The entire team will continue to focus on developing low-carbon solutions on the way to our customers and thus contribute in part to carbon-stable recycling.”
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “We congratulate Oetinger Aluminium GmbH on achieving certification against the new ASI CoC Standard V2 at its two recycling facilities in Germany. The company’s liquid aluminium metal from recycled scrap offers a range of advantages to its customers in terms of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability, including from energy savings during transport and the avoidance of remelting for downstream production. Now, with CoC Certification in place, customers of Oetinger Aluminium can also leverage the sustainable properties of its metal through the use of on-product claims.”
