Novelis, the leading aluminium recycler and rolled product maker is the recycling partner for the 2019 Kentucky Derby. Under this partnership, they will provide recycling bins for approximately 80,000 spectators who would be gathering in the infield at Churchill Downs on May 3 and 4 to enjoy Kentucky Derby. Aluminum cans and bottles collected during the Derby will be recycled at Novelis' facility in Berea, Kentucky. And the value of the aluminium metal will be donated to help fund the building of a Habitat for Humanity home under "Recycle for Good" Campaign.

"Our Kentucky roots date back almost 35 years with plants in Berea, our joint venture Logan Aluminum in Russellville and our plant under construction in Guthrie that combined provide more than 1,500 jobs," said Marco Palmieri, Senior Vice President and President, Novelis North America.
"What better place to showcase the importance of recycling than during the 'Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports®' where nearly 370,000 beverages in aluminum cans are consumed?" he added.
Novelis and its Recycle for Good campaign together collect 1.5 to three million used beverage cans to fully fund a Habitat for Humanity home.
Palmieri said that Novelis feels proud of providing a 100% recyclable and sustainable product to the world that is aluminium can.
"It only takes about 60 days for a can to be recycled and back on store shelves. We're hoping our partnership with the 2019 Derby will not only raise awareness for the importance of recycling, but also help put a roof over at least one Kentucky family."
Kristin Warfield, Vice President of Partnerships, Churchill Downs said that the partnership with Novelis has enabled them to help the spectators taking part in a widespread recycling program that has enduring community impact.
Novelis recycles more than 65 billion used beverage cans each year, turning them back into new aluminium can sheet.
