
According to the International Aluminium Institute, primary aluminium production in North America during May 2022 stood at 325,000 tonnes, rebounding by 10,000 tonnes from the previous month. In April 2022, primary aluminium output in North America had lost that amount and stood at 315,000 tonnes.

However, on a year-on-year calculation, North America’s primary aluminium output in May 2022 edged 4.13 per cent or 14,000 tonnes lower than 339,000 tonnes.
In the first five months of the year, North America’s primary aluminium production totalled 1.577 million tonnes, down by 4.54 per cent from 1.652 million tonnes during the same period last year.
South America also saw an increase of 7,000 tonnes or 7.45 per cent month-on-month in primary aluminium production to 101,000 tonnes in May 2022, following a dip in the previous month. In April, primary aluminium output inched down to 94,000 tonnes from 95,000 tonnes in March.
On a year-on-year basis, South America’s primary aluminium production recorded an increase of 2,000 tonnes from 99,000 tonnes, showed IAI data.
During January-May 2022, South America’s output of primary aluminium amounted to 483,000 tonnes, up by 10,000 tonnes from 473,000 tonnes a year ago.
World primary aluminium production in May 2022 came in at 5.805 million tonnes, with daily average output at 187,300 tonnes. The monthly production saw an increase of 3.64 per cent from 5.601 million tonnes and daily output experienced a growth of 0.32 per cent from 186,700 tonnes in April’22.
