On 21st June 2022, the leading global aluminium producer Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) took part in the 'Make it in the Emirates Forum' orchestrated by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, along with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development.

This forum has an underlying theme of ‘Invest, Partner, Grow’ and is supposed to chair more than 1,300 officials with listed investors and 20 senior representatives from well-known national companies and government bodies.
The forum will boost industrial growth in the UAE, resulting ultimately in economic development and heightened supply chain resilience.
The Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, commented: “Emirates Global Aluminium is the largest industrial company in the UAE outside oil and gas and we are at the heart of one of the most significant economic sectors in the country. We are committed to doubling our absolute contribution to the national economy by 2040, and one way we will do this is by increasing local procurement. We already spend some $1.6 billion each year on the UAE supply chain. The Ministry of Industry & Advanced Technology’s In-Country Value programme, and events like the Make it in the Emirates Forum, will help us increase that further.”
Emirates Global aluminium was founded as Dubai Aluminium in 1975 by His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, since then, it has been experimenting with ‘premium aluminium’ to make livelihood easier.
EGA had been constituted with a merger of Emirates Aluminium and Dubai Aluminium in 2014, while EGA’s Jebel Ali aluminium smelter had begun operating as DUBAL in 1979.
Emirates Global Aluminium is a conglomerated aluminium producer with activities from bauxite mining to the creation of casted primary aluminium. EGA also has one aluminium smelter and alumina refinery in Al Taweelah, with a bauxite mine having auxiliary export bases in the Republic of Guinea.
EGA was enlisted as the first Middle Eastern member in the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative in 2017 under the global programme to carry on safe and sustainable practices in the aluminium value chain.
Aluminium produced by EGA is the second-largest made-in-UAE export, preceded by gas and oil. EGA traded 2.54 million tonnes of cast metal in 2021. EGA alone supplies enough aluminium to make UAE the fifth largest aluminium producer worldwide.
EGA proudly boasts about 400 customers collectively in 50 countries. EGA’s cast metal sales accounted for 84 per cent of value-added products in 2021.
EGA’s 10 per cent metal production is sold in the UAE, divided around 26 local companies for manufacturing utilities like car parts to window frames for local industries and international export.
EGA became the first in the world to commercially produce CelestiAL solar aluminium with the aid of solar power generated in the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in the suburbs of Dubai.
Aluminium produced by EGA is used primarily in the automotive, aerospace, construction, electronics and packaging sectors.
