
Primary aluminium production in North America during August 2023 stood at 332,000 tonnes, reflecting a slight increase of 2,000 tonnes or 0.60 per cent month-on-month, found the International Aluminium Institute. The output growth extended in August but at a slower rate compared to 2.80 per cent in the previous month. In July, North America’s primary aluminium production was recorded at 330,000 tonnes versus 321,000 tonnes in June.

On a year-on-year calculation, primary aluminium output in North America edged a hike of 8.85 per cent from 305,000 tonnes, showed IAI.
The daily average production was 10,700 tonnes in August 2023, up by only 100 tonnes from 10,600 tonnes in July, and 900 tonnes higher than 9,800 tonnes in August 2022.
In the first eight months of the year, North America’s primary aluminium output amassed at 2.57 million tonnes – 2.8 per cent more than 2.50 million tonnes a year ago.
In South America, primary aluminium production during August 2023 grew by 1,000 tonnes or 0.81 per ccent month-on-month to 125,000 tonnes. In July, the output stood at 124,000 tonnes, up by 3,000 tonnes or 2.48 per cent from 121,000 tonnes.
On an annual basis, South America’s primary aluminium output registered a surge of 9,000 tonnes or 7.76 per cent from 116,000 tonnes.
The average daily output in South America during August 2023 stood at 4,000 tonnes, showcasing a restraint month-on-month and a rise of 300 tonnes year-on-year from 3,700 tonnes.
During January-August 2023, South America’s primary aluminium output totalled 966,000 tonnes, reflecting a rise of 153,000 tonnes or 18.82 per cent from 813,000 tonnes.
