
In July 2023, North America contributed 330,000 tonnes to the global primary aluminium production at 5.861 million tonnes, according to the International Aluminium Institute data. On a month-on-month calculation, North America’s primary aluminium output in July stood at 9,000 tonnes or 2.80 per cent higher than 321,000 tonnes, following a drop of 2.43 per cent in June from 329,000 tonnes.

On an annual basis, North America’s output in July reflected a surge of 24,000 tonnes or 7.27 per cent from 306,000 tonnes.
The average daily production of primary aluminium in July 2023 was 10,600 tonnes, slightly down by 100 tonnes from the previous month despite a rise in the monthly output. However, on a year-on-year basis, the output edged an increase of 7.07 per cent from 9,900 tonnes.
In the first seven months of 2023, North America churned out 2.238 million tonnes of primary aluminium in total compared to 2.195 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.
In South America, primary aluminium production during July’23 also saw a rise of 3,000 tonnes or 2.48 per cent month-on-month to reach 124,000 tonnes. In June 2023, the output stood at 121,000 tonnes, down by 1,000 tonnes from the previous month.
On a year-on-year basis, South America’s primary aluminium production in July 2023 jumped by 11.7 per cent from 111,000 tonnes.
The average daily production in July was recorded at 4,000 tonnes, restrained compared to the previous month and up by 400 tonnes from 3,600 tonnes in July 2022.
During January-July 2023, primary aluminium production amounted to 841,000 tonnes, registering a hike of 20.66 per cent from 697,000 tonnes a year ago.
