New perspectives for aluminium tube

With the “your tube award“, the 1. International Aluminium Tube Design Award conceived by the Cologne-based Jeschenko MedienAgentur company, in 2012 the European Tube Manufacturers Association (etma) wishes to demonstrate its appreciation of outstanding design concepts for the aluminium tube. From April to September 2012 etma will be trawling six European countries for creative geniuses, people who succeed in making the innovative link between material, design, and functionality.

The concept has been materially realized in the form of the award site www.your-tube-award.aluminium-tubes.org , which has also been designed and developed by the Cologne communication experts. The pan-European communication campaign is accompanied by ad placements in European design media, classic presswork, and social media activities.

Exclusive material meets creative design

Anyone who’s already worked with the aluminium tube as a packaging material knows that it satisfies the most exacting requirements, yet it also makes high demands of the designer in terms of styling and creativity. Unfortunately, in many cases this is one reason why materials other than the aluminium tube are chosen, although the excellent properties of aluminium offer outstanding functionality in the areas of hygiene, product protection, convenience, and recyclability. Despite the excellent characteristics of the aluminium tube and the unique look and feel of this packaging material, the opportunities it offers in terms of design and styling have by no means been exhausted. This potential of the aluminium tube has now been put on central stage by Jeschenko MedienAgentur in the form of the “your tube award” specially developed to enhance the appeal of the material.

Fresh talent for the tube
Besides “young professionals” and experienced designers who have been specifically invited to participate in this competition by the ads in the trade magazines, students and budding designers at renowned European design institutes, academies and universities are also in the focus of the award. Prizes will be awarded to the three best entries in the area of graphics and product design. The first prize is endowed with 5,000 €, the second with 2,000 € and the third with 1,000 €. The remaining 2,000 € of the total prize sum of 10,000 € will be awarded in appreciation of the “Best Holistic Concept“, for example a tube design for a fictional or new product or a brand that has been created completely from scratch.
