
Bhubaneswar based premier and integrated company in the aluminium value chain, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) sets a new world record by excavating total 8 million tonnes of bauxite in FY2017-18.
The company seems to be enjoying to have graced top news with its successive achievement, projects and developments, as it recently eyed the possibility of gaining access to bauxite deposits in the West African country Guinea. Besides, the company cherishes innumerable recognitions for being the lowest cost producer of alumina in the world. Now another feather adds to its hat as it sets a global benchmark in bauxite mining.

Chairman and Managing Director of NALCO Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand acclaimed the mines and refinery team for achieving 100 per cent capacity utilisation in mines and refineries, referring to the beginning of new mines in south block Panchpatmali as a bold step forward, while addressing a function at NALCO headquarter premises on Sunday to commemorate the Odisha formation day.
At the same event, he said, the company refinery has achieved a record production of 21.11 lakh tonnes since inception. It has ended the financial year 2017-18 on a glorious note with smelters producing cast metal of 4.25 lakh tonne, registering a growth of 9.8 per cent and achieving sales growth of about 4.26 lakh tonnes and 42 alumina shipment exports, enabling the company to achieve the highest turnover ever since inception.
In this respect, Dr. Chand added, “My compliments to Finance and production teams for settling water dispute with the State Government. Project team has achieved the distinction of getting lease transfer for Utkal-D land and environment clearance for Caustic Soda Plant in Dahej, Gujarat.’’
The company's attainment of greater heights in each passing year has also been lauded by the former Economic Affairs Secretary and presently the member of the 15th Finance Commission of India. In his speech he said, “The role of industries in shaping a new India is immense. It is very important for industrial sector in India to adapt to the latest technological innovation and lead the developmental charge of the nation. NALCO is a jewel among the public sector enterprises and is also playing the role of a mother industry in Odisha.”
