Nalco moves SC over levy by Orissa on captive power

Public sector company National Aluminum Company (Nalco) has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Orissa government’s decision to levy higher electricity charges on companies which generate energy for their captive consumption.
The aluminum company has challenged the October 2001 notification increasing electricity duty by 67% from 0.12 paise to 0.20 paise per unit, for the companies which generate electricity for their own consumption. Nalco is supposed to pay more than R141 crore as the differential between the duty it has paid and what it is required to pay as per the notification.
