
Mexico’s aluminium scrap exports to the United States stood at 17,100 tonnes in February 2022, reflecting a month-on-month increase of 11.03 per cent or 1,700 tonnes from 15,400 tonnes, found the US Geological Survey data. The exports in January were 700 tonnes or 4.76 per cent higher than 14,700 tonnes in December 2021.

On a year-on-year basis, Mexico’s aluminium scrap exports to the US in February reflected a hike of 3,600 tonnes or 26.67 per cent from 13,500 tonnes.
During January-February, Mexico’s scrap exports to the US totalled 32,500 tonnes, up 16.07 per cent or 4,500 tonnes from 28,000 tonnes.
The United States’ total aluminium scrap imports in February came in 46,200 tonnes, only 500 tonnes less than in the previous month, and 3,900 tonnes or 7.78 per cent down from 50,100 tonnes a year ago.
Total imports in the two months of the year were 92,900 tonnes, which registered a downfall of 9.8 per cent from 103,000 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
Mexico was the second largest exporter of aluminium scrap to the US in February after Canada, supplying 25,200 tonnes. That was down by 6.67 per cent month-on-month from 27,000 tonnes and 13.99 per cent year-on-year from 29,300 tonnes.
