On Tuesday, November 17, Labor leader Anthony Albanese, accompanied by MP Meryl Swanson, toured Tomago Aluminium, Australia’s largest aluminium smelter. The Tomago tour was part of Labor’s plan to support more manufacturing jobs in the wider Hunter area.

"Our plan is about the security of workers," Ms Swanson said, while adding, "This government has had over 22 energy policies, yet nothing had had an impact on price or assurance for the industry. We need to keep the jobs we've got and we need to support new jobs coming online into the future.”
She also said, "We have practical sensible policies to keep Australians working. Labor will always work hand in hand with workers to ensure fair policy that protects jobs and guarantees industry."
Labor leader Anthony Albanese assured job safety to Tomago workers at the tour. Australia’s Labor Party has got their back was the message from Anthony Albanese at the smelter on Tuesday.
A little more than a week ago, Tomago Aluminium warned the state government that rising energy prices could have a significant impact on its New South Whales operations.
Chief executive of Tomago Matt Howell stated reasonable and reliable source of energy was crucial for the smelter, the largest energy user in New South Whales.
"Anything that delivers cleaner, cheaper and more reliable energy is something that we would be keen to explore," Mr Howell said.
