
Ireland is the 27th largest export economy in the world houses RUSAL’s alumina refinery Aughinish alumina. Located in a rural part of Ireland, RUSAL’s Aughinish refinery is the only producer of alumina in the country and one of the most efficient alumina facilities globally. The refinery has an annual capacity of 1,915,000 tonnes of alumina.
Alumina production in Ireland remains stable in last two years keeping up with a steady upward growth. If we look at the export trend quarter on quarter, we can see the upward growth. As the data shows, in Q1 2016, Ireland exported 500,234 tonnes of alumina globally. In comparison to that, the country exported 511,328 tonnes of alumina in Q1 2017, a slight rise YoY.

In Q2 2016, Ireland exported 540,229 tonnes of alumina globally, which increased to 566,830 tonnes in Q2 2017. In Q3 2016, Ireland exported 539,266 tonnes of alumina, a slight drop QoQ. In Q3 2017, the country is expected to export 591,229 tonnes. Ireland is expected to increase its alumina export to 604,174 tonnes in Q4 2017 in comparison to 562,458 tonnes in Q4 2016.
The alumina export delivered USD 107.8 million revenue to the exporters in Q1 2016. In Q1 2017 the country reported a revenue realization of USD 161.2 million. Considering the steady growth of r alumina prices in recent times, the revenue from alumina export is expected to reach about USD 172 million in Q4 2017, in comparison to USD 143 million in Q4 2016.
