Iran’s alumina powder output

In the first eight months of 2025 of the Iranian calendar, the country’s alumina powder output surpassed 155 thousand tonnes. With reference to the data of IMIDRO, a total of 155,410 tonnes of alumina powder were produced between March 21 and November 21. It had been pointed out in earlier reports that the trend is moving in a positive direction, where the powder production reached 114,153 tonnes in the first half of the year, spanning from March 21 to September 22.

From March to October 2025, the Iran Alumina Company produced 138,859 tonnes of alumina powder, 232,851 tonnes of aluminium hydroxide and 459,409 tonnes of bauxite, which represent year-on-year increases of 2 per cent, 2 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively.

Aluminium hydrate & its best use

Aluminium hydrate, which is typically also popular as aluminium hydroxide, is deemed to be a powdery white substance and the most prevalent form of hydrated alumina. It's a property called amphotericity, which aids in reaction with both acids and bases. In natural form, it is found in the mineral gibbsite, which is deemed to be a key component of the bauxite ore via which aluminium metal is extracted. At the industrial front, this is produced via a process known as the "Bayer process”, which plays a vital role as a precursor for alumina production through calcination.

Apart from the metallurgical use, it has multiple uses across different industries as it is recognised as the budget-friendly flame retardant and smoke suppressant within materials like rubbers, plastics and carpets. It is possible because it breaks down endothermically when heated, releasing water vapour in the process.

In the pharmaceutical world, it is found to be a key ingredient in antacid medications, helping to neutralise excess stomach acid. In addition to this, aluminium hydroxide plays a crucial role as a clarifying agent in water treatment and acts as a filler in many manufactured goods. Its non-toxic and adaptable nature really highlights its importance in both industrial and commercial settings.
