John Bevan, CEO of Alumina Limited, has been appointed Chairman of the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) at its 81st Board of Directors meeting, held in Abu Dhabi on 30 April.
The IAI Board and Annual General Meeting are being held in Abu Dhabi to coincide with the 17th World Aluminium Conference, organized by CRU and hosted by IAI member company Emirates Aluminium.
Bevan replaces Svein Richard Brandtzæg, President and CEO of Hydro.
"It is a great honour and privilege for me to take on the role of IAI Chair, to continue the work of Svein Richard and to have the opportunity to work with my industry peers and colleagues in advancing the Institute and the industry over the next two years," said Bevan
"Our industry is exciting and we are committed to addressing the global issues before us. We will continue to focus on the challenges for the industry and to build on opportunities to advance further aluminium’s role in improving quality of life for the global community, through its myriad applications and unique properties.
"We see growing demand for lightweight, strong, safe and energy efficient aluminium products across all market segments and, through the IAI, we will continue to promote the Aluminium Story (#thealuminiumstory), which is of one of sustainability and resource efficiency all along the metal’s value chain."
IAI Secretary General Ron Knapp paid tribute to the leadership of Brandtzaeg as the Chair of the Institute over the last two years: "Svein Richard's engagement during his term of office reflects his commitment to a strong industry and to a metal of the future; we are pleased that he will continue to be actively involved in the Institute's work in the coming years as IAI Vice Chair."
