
China was the largest importer of Indonesian bauxite in 2017. Around 12,94,112 tonnes of bauxite was shipped from Indonesia to China last year. Indonesia’s export of bauxite to China is estimated to drop in 2018. Total export is estimated to be around 853317 tonnes.
Indonesian government has temporarily revoked nickel ore and bauxite export permits of four mining companies.The government cited zero progress in smelter development by those miners as the ground for revoking the licence, according to a Reuters report. The government revoked permit for PT Lobindo Nusa Persada which was permitted to export 1.5 million tonnes of bauxite annually.

According to recent estimates, Indonesia exported 3, 60,571 tonnes of bauxite in the half of 2018. In the second half of the year, the volume is projected to increase further. In H2 2018, the country is estimated to export 4, 92,747 tonnes of bauxite, down from 1.3 million tonnes in the corresponding period previous year.
Earlier this year, state-owned diversified miner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) had obtained a new permit recommendation from Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry for bauxite and nickel exports. Antam had received one-year recommendation to export 840,000 wet metric tons (wmt) of washed bauxite with an aluminium oxide content of 42%or more. The company aims to produce and sale 1.6 million wmt of bauxite in 2018.
