
According to the recent data shared by the US Geological Survey, India imported 30,600 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the United States in December 2020, almost flat compared to 30,300 tonnes of imports in November 2020 and 8,100 tonnes or 20.93 per cent less than 38,700 tonnes in October 2020. On a year-on-year calculation, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US stood flat as well compared to 30,800 tonnes.

India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US in the fourth quarter of 2020 totalled 99,600 tonnes, up 15,400 tonnes or 18.29 per cent from 84,200 tonnes in the third quarter of 2020.
In the entire year of 2020, India imported 307,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the United States, registering a year-on-year hike of 13.29 per cent from 271,000 tonnes.
The United States total aluminium scrap exports in December 2020 stood at 156,000 tonnes, 10.86 per cent less than 175,000 tonnes month-on-month but 11.43 per cent higher than 140,000 tonnes year-on-year.
However, the United States aluminium scrap exports at the end 2020 stood 0.54 per cent lower at 1.850 million tonnes compared to 1.860 million tonnes at the end of 2019.
