
India’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States continued to increase for the third month in a row, albeit lower than the previous month, in September 2021. According to the US Census Bureau data, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US edged 1.77 per cent or 800 tonnes lower month-on-month to stand at 46,100 tonnes. In August 2021, India’s imports from the US recorded at 45,300 tonnes, up by 11,200 tonnes or 32.84 per cent from 34,100 tonnes in July.

On a year-on-year calculation, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US in September 2021 registered a hike of 10,600 tonnes or 29.86 per cent from 35,500 tonnes.
The third consecutive month of hike in September brought India’s total aluminium scrap imports from India for Q3 2021 to 125,500 tonnes, up by 42.61 per cent from 88,000 tonnes in Q2 2021 (ended on June 30).
From January to September, India imported 295,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US, which recorded a surge of 88,000 tonnes or 42.51 per cent from 207,000 tonnes during the same period last year.

The United States total aluminium scrap exports in September 2021 came in at 171,000 tonnes, which was, however, 9.04 per cent lower month-on-month from 188,000 tonnes. But on a year-on-year basis, the exports stood 8.23 per cent higher than 158,000 tonnes.
