India Alumina Output To Meet Aluminum Smelter Growth -Hindalco

Growth in India's aluminum production will be met by domestic alumina output, not imports, a senior Hindalco Industries Ltd. (500440.BY) executive said Thursday.
Anil Gupta, joint president for sales and marketing, said that India may even become a net exporter of alumina.
"India is self-sufficient in its alumina needs--the three big aluminum producers there have refineries attached so we all have the raw material," he told a Metal Bulletin conference in Paris. "I don't see any reason why we'd import alumina, and in fact we'll probably end up exporting."
India's smelters are expected to produce 3.5 million metric tons of aluminum by 2015. Two tons of alumina makes about one ton of metal.
