After acquiring Polish aluminium recycler Alumetal S.A. two years ago, Hydro is now on the road to finishing the integration of Alumetal's operations in both Poland and Hungary. As part of a rebranding effort, the plants will now operate under Hydro's name, which will help the company solidify its position as a leader in the European foundry alloy market.
The company's complete integration and rebranding of Alumetal marks a strategic move to tap into new commercial opportunities by presenting a unified market front, all while ensuring that its current operations continue smoothly.
Hanne Simensen, Executive Vice President of Hydro Aluminium Metal, stated, "We are setting up a true one-stop shop for recycled and low-carbon foundry alloys that includes the full strength of Hydro's R&D capabilities and technical support teams. Our customers can continue to expect the same high-quality service and products they have come to associate with both Hydro and Alumetal. At the same time, we keep aluminium scrap in the loop to strengthen both circularity and resilience in the European aluminium value chain."
More about Alumetal
Alumetal, besides being a major employer, has a rich history of backing environmental, social and community projects. This dedication will carry on under Hydro's leadership. It operates four recycling facilities, where three plants are located in Poland and one in Hungary and has a total annual capacity of 280,000 tonnes. Most of this output is directed towards the automotive industry.
In November 2024, the recycling firm obtained an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its recycled foundry alloys. In September 2025, Nowa Sól's facility in Poland received certification to produce Hydro CIRCAL foundry alloys, adding a fresh product line to its existing REDUXA primary alloys. With cutting-edge sorting technology, the firm can upcycle more intricate post-consumer scrap, with Hydro's innovative HySort technology set to kick off operations at Nowa Sól in 2025.

The recycling company, which is currently operating as an independent entity under Hydro, is gearing up to embrace Hydro's operating model as it moves into the final phase of integration. In early 2026, its facilities located in Poland and Hungary will be rebranded to Hydro Kęty, Hydro Gorzyce, Hydro Nowa Sól, and Hydro Komárom.
Agnieszka Drzyzdzyk, CEO of Alumetal, stated, "Alumetal's strong social commitment is a good match with Hydro's efforts to contribute to thriving communities wherever it operates. When we raise the Hydro flags at the plants early next year, we will not only continue to contribute to value creation and employment, but we will also be uniting our efforts to be a good neighbour and make a difference in the local communities we depend on."
Where it all began
Back in 2023, Hydro acquired the Polish aluminium recycler Alumetal S.A. by successfully securing over 97 per cent of its shares through a tender offer that was finalised on June 30, 2023. This strategic step strengthens Hydro's foothold in the European recycling market, allowing the company to provide a wider array of low-carbon, recycled aluminium products sourced from post-consumer scrap.
The acquisition is a perfect fit with Hydro's sustainability ambitions, promoting greater circularity in the aluminium value chain and helping customers meet their environmental goals. Both companies marked the successful completion of the deal at Alumetal's headquarters in Kęty, Poland, on July 10, 2023.
