
Guinea has the world’s largest reserves of bauxite, the ore used to produce aluminium. Containing a content of alumina, Guinean bauxite reserves are estimated at over 40 billion tons, 23 billion tons of which are located in the Boké region.
Guinea’s highly competitive level of output allows it to supply all major world markets. Guinea holds substantial world-class reserves of bauxite, both in terms of quality and quantity.

The recent entry of several new industrial players into production and an increase in the production capacity of its current operators, the country can reach an annual production level of 42 up to 54 million tons from 2018, with the ultimate goal of producing 100 million tons per year.
The growth of bauxite export has been substantial from the year 2017-20 for Guinea, as it has recorded to 227.67 million tonnes and in the amount, it stood at foreign revenue income as $2.14 billion.
In 2017 Guinea’s bauxite stood at 42.82 million tonnes and it amounted to earnings of $422 million. The year 2018 showed a rapid growth of 26%, as the total bauxite export stood at 54.15 million tonnes and foreign revenue generation rose to $483 million, a straight hump of $61 million from the previous year.
The year 2019 also showed a positive trend as Guinea’s bauxite export again mounted high to 64.45 million tonnes, with an inclination of 19.02% from the previous year.
Guinea’s bauxite export is estimated at 66.25 million tonnes for 2020, with a minimal rise of 2.79% in comparison to 2018.
The signing of major investment agreements since 2013 heralded the arrival of even more companies into Guinea, introducing a new surge in momentum for the bauxite industry. This growth confirmed the position of Guinea as a major player in the international market for bauxite and a destination for a substantial investment.
