DECO Australia, the renowned Australian manufacturer of timber-style aluminium building products, has completed its solar panel installation project at its manufacturing plant in Minto, Southwest Sydney. The company's latest solar panel project, which consists of over 950 solar panels, is a significant milestone in DECO's efforts toward environmental conservation and sustainability. Macarthur Solar installed DECO Australia's solar energy system.
With a total solar energy capability of over 500 kilowatts, the newly installed panels will generate enough energy to power approximately 60% of the company's operations, equivalent to powering around 100 average-size homes per year or planting over 10,000 trees. This initiative is a testament to DECO's commitment to adopting eco-friendly practices and reducing its carbon footprint.
Detailed specifications
The installation of new solar panels will generate an additional 400 kilowatts of power and contribute specifically to powering two of DECO's most prominent production lines. This initiative will lead to a substantial decrease in the company's carbon emissions. The project aligns with DECO's commitment to providing cleaner and greener building materials, addressing the growing demand for sustainable products from specifiers, builders, and end-users.
What DECO officials had to say
The general manager of DECO Australia, Richard Hamber, elaborated: "DECO has always been committed to improving our carbon footprint, and we are thrilled to further invest in our renewable energy program through the installation of these additional solar panels."
"Reducing environmental impact is a strategic focus for DECO, and we understand that it aligns with our customers' priorities, too. Manufacturing lower carbon products is not merely a preference; it has become a necessity for those specifiers, builders and homeowners who are making conscious decisions to source greener building materials and products for their projects," Hamber continued with his detailed explanation.
DECO's route to a green future
DECO's latest sustainability initiative is considered a significant investment for the company, reflecting its commitment to promoting a cleaner industry. In light of the evolving building codes, such as the introduction of the NSW Government's 'BASIX Material Index' in October this year, DECO aims to reduce the inherited carbon content of their building materials and support the industry's transition to sustainable operations.
Integration of Capral's LocAl Green low-carbon aluminium
The Australian aluminium building products provider has been taking significant steps toward promoting sustainability, and these efforts go beyond energy initiatives. For instance, in June 2023, the company became the first manufacturer of building products to switch to LocAl Green, a low-carbon aluminium variant sourced from Capral Aluminium. This transition has helped DECO significantly reduce its CO2e emissions, making it a pioneer in this domain.
