Funing County, located in Yunnan Province, has recently released the "14th Five Year Plan" for Energy Development related to the region. According to this plan, Funing County is projected to significantly increase electricity consumption, with green aluminium projects as the driving force behind this surge. By 2025, the anticipated aggregate social power consumption in Funing County is projected to reach 12.4 billion kilowatt hours, reflecting a growth of 8.3 billion kilowatt hours.

The share of electricity use in the overall social energy consumption is projected to rise substantially to 92 per cent. The primary catalyst for the increased demand for energy consumption is the inclusion of an additional 11.8 billion kilowatt hours of power in the aluminium sector, while the overall societal electricity consumption in other industries will rise by around 600 million kilowatt hours. The average yearly growth rate throughout the 14th Five-Year Plan period is about 15%. By 2035, the whole power use in Funing County will be projected to reach 12.7 billion kilowatt hours, with electricity consumption accounting for about 93% of the county's total energy consumption.
As a result, the plan suggests supporting the growth of the green aluminium sector in Funing by securing electricity supplies, expediting the building of power channels, and encouraging the extension of the 500kV Funing substation's third and fourth main transformers. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, four new 110 kV substations and four 35 kV substations will be built or expanded, along with one new 35 kV transmission line project and one new 10 kV below distribution network project. There will be 188 megavolt amperes of additional substation capacity installed.
