Fire dept.looks into aluminum plant blaze

Authorities are investigating the cause of a magnesium fire at the Tennessee Aluminum Processors plant in Mt. Pleasant.
The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department arrived at the plant about 8:15 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a loud explosion, Chief Tim Smith said. Smith suspects the explosion and fire were sparked by rainwater from a storm that came through the area earlier in the evening. When combined, heated magnesium and water can have explosive reactions, he said.
